According to the Houston Police Department, 21-year-old Gary Johnson has been charged with murder in the death of Caleb Mitchell.

The shooting occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. on May 2 at the Sedona Square Apartments, located in the 11700 block of South Glen Drive.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives G. Rangel and H. Montealegre reported that patrol officers responded to a shooting call and found Mitchell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in a breezeway of the apartment complex.

Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department pronounced Mitchell dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that Mitchell had exited an apartment to meet someone when he was shot. Witnesses reported seeing two males flee the area after the gunfire.

Following further investigation, detectives identified Johnson as one of the suspects involved in the shooting.

On May 27, officers with the HPD Westside Division Gang Unit arrested Johnson. He was subsequently charged with murder and booked into the Harris County Jail.

Police said a second suspect remains at large and is still being sought.
