Fatal Crash and Police Pursuit on Westheimer Road Under Investigation
Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Thursday night, May 9th, at around 10:15 p.m. The incident took place at 10600 Westheimer Road.
A 12-year-old male was tragically killed in the crash. However, the identity of the deceased juvenile has not been released pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The sequence of events began when a westside patrol officer witnessed a collision between two vehicles near the 12000 block of Richmond at approximately 10 p.m. Following the collision, the officer observed a grey Hyundai Sonata, believed to be the suspect vehicle, fleeing from the scene. Attempts were made to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver of the Hyundai Sonata continued to evade the police, leading to a pursuit.
During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle in the 2800 block of Kirkwood before continuing to flee. The chase came to a devastating end when the suspect vehicle collided with three additional vehicles in the 10600 block of Westheimer. This final collision disabled the suspect vehicle.
Four juvenile suspects, all believed to be black males aged between 12 to 13 years old, fled the vehicle on foot. While two passengers were apprehended by responding officers, the driver managed to escape on foot.
A fifth male was found unresponsive inside the vehicle. Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene and transported him to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
One of the suspects who attempted to evade on foot was also taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle involved in the crash had been stolen earlier in the day.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing as Houston police work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
