HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A 23-year-old man was arrested after deputies say he attempted to evade law enforcement during a traffic stop near the Cypress Station area.

According to Harris County Constable Mark Herman’s Office, deputies initiated a traffic stop on June 17, 2026, after observing a vehicle being driven recklessly in the 100 block of FM 1960 Road.

Authorities said the driver refused to stop and attempted to flee, driving across multiple lanes of traffic and nearly colliding with several vehicles during the pursuit.

Deputies were able to safely stop the vehicle and take the driver into custody without injuries being reported.

The driver was identified as 23-year-old Jaylen Smith.

During the investigation, deputies discovered Smith had three active warrants.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on the outstanding warrants and was additionally charged with Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle.

According to authorities, his bond was set at $5,000 by the 497th District Court.

“Reckless drivers who endanger the public by fleeing from law enforcement will be held accountable,” Constable Mark Herman said in a statement. “Our deputies acted quickly to bring this dangerous situation to a safe conclusion before anyone was injured.”

The case remains under investigation.
