El Paso Officers Shoot Armed Suspect in Family Violence Call

A 32-year-old El Paso man was shot by an El Paso Police officer after allegedly confronting a family member and responding officers while armed with two knives. The incident occurred on Friday, June 14, at approximately 7:37 PM in the 9500 block of North Loop.

Officers were dispatched to the location following a report of family violence in progress. Upon arrival, they encountered the male suspect armed with a knife in each hand. The suspect reportedly confronted both a family member and the responding officers, refusing to comply with verbal commands.

An 8-month veteran of the El Paso Police Department discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. Emergency medical aid was immediately rendered at the scene, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No officers were injured during the incident, which also involved a 7-year veteran of the El Paso Police Department.

In accordance with standard protocol for officer-involved shootings, the Crimes Against Persons unit is continuing with the investigation. The incident will also undergo review by the Internal Affairs Shooting Review Team and the Texas Rangers. Criminal charges against the suspect are pending his release from the hospital.
