DPS Trooper Struck by Alleged Intoxicated Driver in Harris County, Investigation Underway

On Friday, September 27, 2024, around 2:30 a.m., a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper was struck by an alleged intoxicated driver on State Highway 249 near Upland Willow Avenue in Harris County. The trooper was conducting a traffic stop outside of his vehicle when the collision occurred. He is currently in critical but stable condition at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center.

The intoxicated driver has been taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing. An update on Saturday, September 28, reported that the condition of the DPS trooper has been upgraded to serious but stable. The agency expressed gratitude for the support received by the trooper’s family and friends.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrested the driver for several felony offenses, including intoxication assault on a peace officer, failure to stop and render aid, and evading arrest. A joint investigation involving the Texas Highway Patrol, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and Harris County District Attorney’s Office is ongoing.
