Bryan Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Beating, Strangling Ex-Girlfriend in Repeat Assault
Olajawon Mason

On June 6, 2025, Olajuwon Mason was sentenced by Judge Kyle Hawthorne to 40 years in prison for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 40 years for Assault Family Violence Strangulation with a Previous Conviction, and 10 years for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. The court also made affirmative findings of family violence and use of a deadly weapon.

Mason had previously been convicted in 2019 for Burglary of a Habitation after breaking into his then-girlfriend’s home, kicking in the bathroom door, and strangling her. He served two years in prison for that offense.

On September 15, 2022, Bryan Police responded to another call at the same residence. Officers found the same woman severely beaten and showing signs of strangulation, with injuries including facial bruising, bleeding, and swelling. The victim reported losing consciousness during the assault.

The victim’s sister, who placed the 911 call, told police Mason had pointed a firearm at her before locking himself in the bedroom with the victim. She reported hearing banging and screaming before fleeing with the victim’s two children to call for help. Mason fled the scene and evaded capture despite extensive search efforts.

He was later added to Brazos County’s Most Wanted List and the Domestic Violence High Risk Team List. In January 2025, Bryan Police’s Direct Deployment Team arrested him.

As part of the sentence, the victim and her sister were granted lifetime protective orders. Due to the deadly weapon finding, Mason must serve at least half of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
