Baytown Man Charged with Murder After Supplying Fentanyl That Led to Montgomery County Woman’s Death

On July 3, 2024, members of the Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team (MOCONET) responded to a residence in the 14000 block of Walker Road in Montgomery County, Texas, to assist with investigating the death of a 61-year-old female. During the initial investigation, evidence found at the location indicated that the woman may have overdosed on illicit narcotics. Following an autopsy, the Montgomery County Forensic Center confirmed that the cause of death was the toxic effects of Fentanyl.

As a result of the investigation, authorities identified 39-year-old Victor Allen Matthew of Baytown, Texas, as the individual responsible for providing the Fentanyl to the deceased woman. An arrest warrant was obtained, and Matthew was taken into custody on August 29, 2024. He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and charged with murder for supplying Fentanyl that led to the death of the Montgomery County resident.

Since 2019, MOCONET, in collaboration with the Houston High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), has been working to combat the trafficking of Fentanyl and its link to overdose deaths in Montgomery County. Recent changes in Texas law have enabled MOCONET to pursue murder charges in cases involving fatal Fentanyl overdoses.

Several agencies assisted with this investigation, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Baytown Police Department, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. Victor Allen Matthew remains in the Montgomery County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
