Austin Police Search for Suspect in Knife Attack at Republic Square Park
On Saturday, November 16, 2024, at approximately 5:25 p.m., Austin police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a knife-wielding suspect threatening a man at Republic Square Park, located at 422 Guadalupe Street. The caller described the suspect as a Black male, approximately six feet tall, wearing a white shirt and black pants.
Upon arrival, Austin Police Department (APD) officers located the victim, who was identified as a worker in the area. The victim had a visible laceration on the left side of his face. He explained that he was performing his duties, which involved using a leaf blower, when an unknown individual attacked him with a knife before fleeing the area.
Through their investigation, officers determined the suspect had boarded a Capital Metro Bus near the intersection of Oak Springs Drive and Ridgeline before arriving at the park and committing the assault. Surveillance images of the suspect were recovered during the investigation.
The suspect is described as:
- Black male
- 50–60 years old
- Appears to walk with a limp
- Last seen wearing a white t-shirt with the text “We Never Give Up,” gray pants, and black shoes
