Arson Attack on Buddhist Temple Prompts Investigation in Montgomery County

On November 5, 2023, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a reported arson at The Buddhist Temple located in the 17000 Block of FM 1485 in New Caney.

Initial findings indicate that an unidentified individual approached the temple and hurled a container filled with gasoline and a lit wick, resembling a ‘Molotov Cocktail,’ through an open window. Temple members present at the time acted swiftly to extinguish the flames and promptly contacted law enforcement.

The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office, in conjunction with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), arrived on the scene to initiate a thorough investigation into the incident. Interviews with multiple individuals were conducted on the same night to gather information.

The suspect is described as a white or light-skinned male wearing a dark baseball cap, black boots, and carrying a backpack, as pictured on page 2.
