Elgin High School Coach Arrested on Child Sexual Assault Charge

ELGIN, Texas — An Elgin High School coach was arrested Wednesday morning on a felony warrant charging him with aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to the Elgin Police Department.

At approximately 9:04 a.m. on July 1, officers with the Elgin Police Department executed a felony arrest warrant at Elgin High School, located at 14000 County Line Road, at the request of the Bastrop Police Department.

Authorities arrested 43-year-old Jacob Donald Johns without incident.

Johns is charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, a first-degree felony under Texas law.

Following his arrest, Johns was transported to the Bastrop County Jail.

Police emphasized there is no ongoing threat to students, school staff, or the community, and said the arrest was conducted safely without incident on campus.

The investigation is being led by the Bastrop Police Department.

In a statement, the Bastrop Police Department thanked the Elgin Police Department for assisting with the execution of the arrest warrant.

“Our department would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to the Elgin Police Department for their assistance in serving an arrest warrant that was issued by our agency for an Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child,” the department said.

Investigators said the case remains active and, because of its sensitive nature, no additional details are being released at this time.

All criminal charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
