Troopers Arrest Driver After Pursuit in Stolen SUV Through Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – A driver was taken into custody early May 28 after leading Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on a high-speed pursuit in a vehicle reported stolen by the Austin Police Department.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Capitol Region troopers spotted a black Chevrolet SUV at approximately 3:54 a.m. that had been reported stolen.
Troopers followed the vehicle southbound on Interstate 35 while waiting for additional units to assist with a traffic stop.
When emergency lights and sirens were activated, authorities said the driver refused to stop, accelerated, and weaved through traffic while reaching speeds of approximately 92 mph.
Due to the threat posed to motorists, troopers conducted a Precision Immobilization Technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver, near the Riverside Drive overpass. The maneuver successfully disabled the vehicle and brought the pursuit to an end.
Troopers then conducted a high-risk stop and safely took the driver into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, authorities located a methamphetamine pipe and a ziplock bag containing an unknown white powdery substance inside the vehicle.
The suspect was transported to jail after receiving medical clearance.
No troopers, suspects, or members of the public were injured during the incident.
DPS praised the actions of the troopers and assisting agencies, citing their teamwork and professionalism in safely resolving the pursuit.
