THC Vape Deal Turns Into Gunfire in Montgomery County Neighborhood, 2 Arrested

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — Two suspects, including a juvenile, were arrested after an attempted THC vape cartridge sale escalated into a shooting that sent bullets into multiple homes in a Montgomery County neighborhood, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies with the West Patrol Command responded Saturday, May 16, 2026, to the 12000 block of Noble Wood Drive after receiving information that a person suffering from a gunshot wound had arrived at a hospital in The Woodlands.
Investigators said information from the victim and 911 callers indicated a disturbance near Noble Wood Drive and Lazy Oak Creek Drive escalated into an aggravated assault involving gunfire.
Deputies from the sheriff’s office and Montgomery County Constable’s Office Precinct 5 responded to the scene and detained multiple individuals.
The sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigators later determined the incident began during an attempted sale of THC vape cartridges and escalated into an exchange of gunfire between those involved.
Authorities said several homes in the neighborhood were struck by bullets during the shooting, though no residents inside the homes were injured.
The only reported injury involved the original victim connected to the altercation and vape sale. She was treated at a local hospital.
Investigators said the shooting was a targeted incident involving known individuals and not a random act of violence.
Through the investigation, detectives identified two suspects and arrested them the same night.
One suspect, 19-year-old Billy D. Chaplin of Magnolia, was charged with:
- Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- Deadly Conduct
Chaplin remains in the Montgomery County Jail.
A second suspect, identified as a juvenile, was also arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Facility.
