Houston Metro Officers Fatally Shoot Armed Man After Knife Confrontation

HOUSTON — Houston police are investigating after officers with the Houston Metro Police Department fatally shot an armed man Saturday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.

Authorities said the shooting occurred around 10:15 a.m. on May 16, 2026.

The identity of the 22-year-old man has not yet been released pending notification of family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to investigators, Metro Police officers responded to a report of a suspicious person and encountered a man matching the description who was armed with a large knife.

Police said officers repeatedly ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, but he allegedly charged toward officers while still holding the knife.

Two Metro Police officers then fired their duty weapons, striking the suspect.

The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Officials said no officers were injured during the incident.

The case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division’s Special Investigations Unit, which routinely handles officer-involved shootings within Houston city limits.
