SAN JACINTO COUNTY, Texas, March 10, 2026 — A man was arrested after a traffic stop involving an ATV in an area known locally as the “Bottoms,” according to the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Operation Lone Star Task Force was patrolling the area when he observed an individual operating an ATV in the roadway in violation of the Texas Transportation Code.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop and identified the operator as Edward Lee Schubert. Authorities said Schubert initially provided a false name before later admitting his true identity.

Schubert was charged with Failure to Identify.

During the encounter, investigators said Schubert became argumentative and made statements that deputies interpreted as threatening toward law enforcement. According to the sheriff’s office, Schubert stated that “the Bottoms has something for you,” referring to the deputy involved in the stop.

Officials said the statement was taken seriously and perceived as a potential threat.

As a result of the encounter, the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office announced it will increase law enforcement presence in the area known as the Bottoms. Deputies will work alongside state, local and federal partners conducting additional patrols and enforcement operations in the area.

Schubert was transported to the San Jacinto County Jail and released into the custody of jail staff.

Authorities remind the public that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Officials also encourage anyone with information about criminal activity to contact the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office or submit tips through Multi County Crime Stoppers.
