Austin Bank Robbery Suspect Identified, Arrested After Multi-Agency Investigation

AUSTIN, Texas – A man accused of robbing an Austin credit union at gunpoint has been arrested after investigators identified him within days of the crime and recovered much of the stolen cash, police said.
The robbery occurred at 10:09 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, at the Austin Telco Federal Credit Union located at 12188 Jollyville Road in Austin, TX. According to the Austin Police Department, the suspect entered the bank armed with a firearm, displayed the weapon to employees, and demanded money before fleeing with a large amount of cash.
Investigators said the suspect initially proved difficult to identify because he was wearing a black wig, ski goggles, and a black mask during the robbery. Detectives were able to narrow in on the suspect based on distinctive clothing, including a yellow reflective vest, black pants with reflective stripes along the sides, and dark shoes.
Using multiple investigative techniques, APD detectives identified the suspect as 42-year-old Syntedrick Brown. By early Saturday morning, police said they had gathered enough evidence to file formal charges.
On Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, the APD Robbery Unit, the APD Violent Crimes Task Force, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant at Brown’s residence. Authorities said the search led to the recovery of a significant portion of the cash taken during the robbery.
Brown was arrested and is currently in federal custody.
