HOUSTON, TX – Houston police have arrested two suspects following the fatal shooting of a woman and the wounding of a juvenile male aboard a Metro bus Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. on January 7th at 10800 Richmond Avenue, in the Westchase area of Houston. The primary suspect, Brayden Smith, 17, has been charged with murder in the 209th Criminal District Court. A second individual, Patrick Scott, 18, is charged with unlawful carry of a weapon in Harris County Criminal Court No. 15.

The identity of the female victim, 25, is pending notification of next of kin by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. A 16-year-old male was also struck by gunfire and survived his injuries.

According to the Houston Police Department Homicide Division, officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance on a Metro bus that had stopped to pick up passengers. Upon arrival, officers found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported her to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Investigators determined that Smith and Scott were involved in an argument when gunfire erupted, striking both the woman and the juvenile male. Both suspects fled the scene on foot. Detectives later confirmed that Smith fired the shots that hit the victims and that Scott was also armed at the time of the incident.

HPD Homicide Division detectives, along with officers from the Westside Division, Gang Division, Metro Police Department, Houston ISD Police Department, and Alief ISD Police Department, worked together to identify and apprehend both suspects.
