EL PASO, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) captured a confirmed Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang member and convicted murderer from Venezuela during Operation Lone Star in El Paso County last month.

On the morning of September 4, 2025, DPS Special Agents with the Criminal Investigations Division (CID), working alongside Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the U.S. Border Patrol, received information about a possible TdA gang member and wanted murderer believed to be staying at a hotel in El Paso.

Special Agents located the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Alexis Ramon Perozo-Monasterio, who attempted to escape by jumping out of a second-story hotel window. He was quickly apprehended by agents at the scene.

Investigators later confirmed that Perozo-Monasterio is a verified member of the Tren de Aragua gang and a fugitive from Venezuela. He had previously escaped from a Venezuelan prison after being convicted and sentenced to 17 years for the rape and murder of a 10-year-old child.

Records show Perozo-Monasterio also has a history of illegal reentry into the United States. In April 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) charged him with alien inadmissibility.

After his capture, DPS turned Perozo-Monasterio over to ICE, and he was subsequently removed from the United States.
