Suspect Arrested in Eastex Freeway Shooting that Injured Juvenile

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with an aggravated assault and shooting incident on the Eastex Freeway earlier this month that left a juvenile female wounded.
On July 8, 2025, at approximately 3:30 PM, Harris County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a shooting at 12350 Eastex Freeway. Upon arrival, they found a juvenile female who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where she was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives with the Violent Offenders Unit Robbery/Assault Division immediately responded and launched an investigation. Through their work, 21-year-old Rodney Lynn Burns Jr., was identified as the suspect in the case.
Burns was taken into custody on July 17, 2025. During an interview with detectives, he reportedly confessed to the offense. Burns has been charged with Aggravated Assault/Deadly Weapon and was booked into the Harris County Jail.
