Second Arrest Made in Death of Child Left in Brownsville Daycare Van

A second individual has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 4-year-old child found unresponsive inside a daycare van at “The Learning Club Pre School” on June 27th. Sendy Ruiz, 38, was arrested and arraigned on June 30th on charges of Injury to a Child Causing Death, a Second Degree Felony, and was issued a $60,000 bond.

Previously, Karen Silva, 36, was also taken into custody and formally charged with Injury to a Child Causing Death, a Second Degree Felony, in the same incident.

Brownsville Police responded to a medical emergency at the daycare, located in the 3900 block of Paredes Line Road, at approximately 4:55 p.m. on June 27th. Upon arrival, officers were informed that the child had been found unresponsive inside a daycare van. Brownsville EMS responded to the scene, where the child was pronounced deceased.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. The Brownsville Police Department extends its thoughts to the victim’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
