Two-Alarm Fire Breaks Out in Sharpstown Apartment Building, Three Firefighters Injured

A two-alarm fire erupted in a three-story apartment building located at 6600 Dunlap St. in the Sharpstown area on February 27, 2024, at 6:58 a.m. The blaze resulted in injuries to three firefighters, while one resident received on-scene treatment.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke and flames billowing from the second and third floors of the structure. The fire had affected four units directly, with smoke spreading to an additional eight units. A prompt response saw 93 personnel, including crews from multiple stations and the Houston Police Department, mobilized to control the situation.

Emergency services established a perimeter and conducted a primary search of the building. Two firefighters sustained minor burns and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, one resident received medical attention on-site.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, though initial assessments suggest it was accidental. Firefighters worked diligently to contain the blaze, with an estimated $250,000 in damages reported. Fire Department arson investigators have been summoned to ascertain the origin and cause of the incident.

Efforts to mitigate the fire involved the establishment of a rehabilitation station for rotating firefighters, alongside requests for additional manpower through a second alarm. The building was successfully ventilated, and the fire was eventually extinguished.
