Texas Rangers Investigating Fatal Deputy-Involved Shooting Following Pursuit in Lake Jackson

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – A man died early Sunday after being shot during an encounter with a Brazoria County Sheriff’s deputy following a vehicle pursuit in Lake Jackson.
According to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at approximately 12:09 a.m. on June 1 when a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop near FM 2004 and This Way Street.
Authorities said the driver failed to stop and fled, leading deputies on a pursuit through the area.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle entered the attached garage of a residence in the 100 block of Indian Warrior Trail in Lake Jackson.
During the subsequent encounter between the deputy and the driver, the deputy discharged his firearm, striking the driver.
The driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No information regarding the driver’s identity or the circumstances that led to the shooting has been released.
The sheriff’s office requested assistance from the Texas Rangers, who will lead the investigation in coordination with the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office.
In accordance with department policy, the deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional information is being released at this time.
