Oak Ridge North Officer Fired, Arrested on DWI Charge After Reporting for Duty

OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas – An Oak Ridge North police officer has been terminated and arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge after reporting for duty while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

According to the City of Oak Ridge North, Officer Zachery Castenon arrived at the Oak Ridge North Police Department on May 31 to begin his shift.

Before Castenon assumed any patrol-related duties, another officer reportedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person and notified a supervisor.

Department officials said the supervising sergeant immediately followed established protocol by contacting the Texas Department of Public Safety and requesting that an independent outside agency conduct the investigation.

The city said it is fully cooperating with DPS as the investigation continues.

Castenon was subsequently booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated.

City officials confirmed that Castenon is no longer employed by the Oak Ridge North Police Department.

In a statement, the city emphasized that the actions of one employee do not reflect the professionalism of the department as a whole and praised personnel for promptly reporting the concern and following procedures to ensure an independent investigation.

Because the case remains under investigation and the criminal process is ongoing, officials said no further information will be released at this time.
