Suspects Arrested in January Murder of 23-Year-Old Woman in Sweetwater

On February 21, 2024, detectives from the Sweetwater Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division secured arrest warrants for individuals linked to the death of 23-year-old Chasity Nelson, whose body was discovered on January 27, 2024.

As of now, Francisco “Speedy” Gonzales, Jose Mireles, and Shelby Kirkland (not pictured) have been charged with 1st Degree Felony Murder, Tampering with a Corpse (2nd degree felony), and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity (1st degree felony). Additionally, Scott Garza faces charges of Tampering with a Corpse and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity.

All suspects have been apprehended, and the case will proceed to prosecution under the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
