Officer-Involved Shooting at Edinburg High School Leads to Arrest and Investigation
Alvaro Alcudia

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to an officer-involved shooting at Economedes High School in Edinburg, Texas, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

Officers were investigating a stolen Ford F-150 truck when they approached the suspect, 18-year-old Alvaro Alcudia, who was seen entering the stolen vehicle.

Alcudia, driving the stolen truck, accelerated towards the officers, prompting one of them to fire his duty-issued firearm. Alcudia struck the officer’s vehicle and fled the scene.

Both the Edinburg Police Department and Edinburg ISD Police Department requested assistance from Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the incident.

HCSO became the lead investigative agency for both the criminal incident and the officer-involved shooting. Investigators and Crime Scene Specialists gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses at the school. The stolen truck was found abandoned in a nearby neighborhood, and Alcudia was later located at his residence and taken into custody.

Alcudia was arraigned today by Justice of the Peace Andre Maldonado, who issued a $500,000.00 cash surety bond. He faces charges of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant. The Officer Involved Shooting case remains under investigation.
