Suspect Arrested Months After Prairie View Police Officer Struck and Injured in Hit-and-Run

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that seriously injured a Prairie View police officer last year, according to the Prairie View Police Department.
Officer Sarita Seymore was struck by a vehicle on Aug. 28, 2025, while directing traffic during the shutdown of a large gathering. Seymore, who had been with the department for about two years, suffered multiple serious injuries in the incident.
Authorities said the suspect vehicle, described as a silver 2020 Nissan Rogue, fled the scene immediately after the collision. Officers and civilians nearby rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, and Seymore was transported to a local hospital.
Following months of investigation, including witness interviews, detectives identified Destiny E. Spann as the suspect. The case was led by Detective Sgt. Mendiola, who helped confirm Spann’s involvement.
On May 4, 2026, Spann was taken into custody on a warrant for collision involving personal injury or death and booked into the Waller County Jail without incident.
Police said the case highlights the department’s continued efforts to pursue accountability in incidents involving harm to officers.
Despite her injuries, Seymore continues her recovery, supported by fellow officers, family and the community.
