HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man was arrested early Sunday after deputies found him in possession of a handgun on school grounds, according to the Harris County Constable Mark Herman’s Office.

Deputies responded around 2 a.m. May 3 to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 16800 block of Wellington Forest Lane at Lewis Middle School, part of Aldine ISD.

When deputies arrived, they made contact with the vehicle, which was occupied by 19-year-old Joel Ramos Rivera. Authorities said Rivera refused to exit the vehicle and comply with commands, prompting deputies to enter the vehicle and detain him.

During the investigation, deputies discovered Rivera was in possession of a handgun while on school property.

Rivera was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm on school premises. His bond was set at $10,000 by the 230th District Court.

“Constable deputies remain committed to ensuring the safety of our schools and surrounding communities,” said Mark Herman.
