Stepson Arrested for Assault and Drug Possession after Altercation with Stepfather

Cameron County Sheriff Deputies responded to an assault call on Sunday, February 25, 2024, around 1:20 AM, at a residence on the 5700 block of Tapachula Dr., Brownsville, Texas. A 45-year-old male victim reported being punched in the face by his stepson, identified as 20-year-old Asael Castillo. The victim sustained injuries consistent with an assault.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with Castillo, who admitted to punching the victim. He claimed it was in response to inappropriate comments and disrespect from the victim. A witness independently supported the victim’s account.

As a result, Asael Castillo was arrested and taken to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center, where he faces charges of Assault Family Violence TPC 22.01, a Class A Misdemeanor.

During the booking process, detention officers discovered four clear plastic baggies containing cocaine concealed by Castillo. Consequently, he faces an additional charge of Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1, a 3rd Degree Felony.
