Standoff in Abilene Ends with Arrest of Man Hiding in Attic

On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 4:40 p.m., the Abilene Police Department responded to a disturbance call in the 5300 block of Taos Drive in southeast Abilene. A female caller reported that a male was involved in an altercation, had taken some of her property, and refused to return it, causing her to fear for her safety.

Upon arrival, officers escorted the female and another male out of the residence into protective custody while the suspect remained inside and refused to exit. The situation escalated, leading to the deployment of the SWAT team, Street Crimes unit, patrol officers, and negotiators in an effort to convince the suspect to surrender peacefully.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Alexander Louis Acosta, was eventually located hiding in the attic of the home. Acosta had outstanding warrants for Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B Possession of Marijuana charge out of Taylor County, and an Assault Family Violence warrant out of Austin, TX. He was taken into custody around 10 p.m. without further incident.
