San Angelo Police Charge Two Suspects in Death of 3-Year-Old

San Angelo Police Department announced that on January 18, 2024, officers responded to a call regarding an unconscious 3-year-old boy at a residence in the 2000 block of Vaughn Street. Upon arrival, officers found the child unresponsive and immediately administered life-saving measures before transporting him to Shannon Medical Center. Unfortunately, the child could not be revived and was pronounced deceased.

Following the incident, detectives from the Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit launched an investigation and determined that the child had been subjected to neglect and inadequate care and nourishment. As a result, Mark Anthony Nieves, aged 32, and Syhtel Lee Limuel, aged 29, have been identified as suspects.

Based on the findings of the investigation, the San Angelo Police Department has filed charges against Nieves and Limuel. The charges include:

  • First Degree Felony Injury to a Child by Omission with Serious Bodily Injury
  • Third Degree Felony Injury to a Child with Bodily Injury
  • Third Degree Felony Assault on a Pregnant Person
  • State Jail Felony Endangering a Child (two counts)

On April 24, 2024, Nieves and Limuel were arrested by the Abilene Police Department on the aforementioned charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
