Road Rage in Brownsville: Brothers Arrested After Shooting and Multi-Vehicle Crash

On July 9, 2024, Brownsville Police Patrol Officers responded to multiple calls about a road rage incident in progress on the 10650 block of N. Expressway 77/83 near Rancho Viejo. The incident began in Harlingen, TX following an altercation and concluded in Brownsville with a collision involving several vehicles.

The victim, driving a black Toyota Tacoma, was pursued by a white F-150 utility truck and a black Dodge Ram operated by siblings Edgar Gerardo Garza (33) and Francisco Javier Garza (29). During the road rage, the victim alerted his father, who arrived at the scene in a black GMC Sierra to intervene and de-escalate the situation. The confrontation escalated when Francisco Javier Garza fired a shot in the direction of both the victim and his father, striking the GMC Sierra.

The Garza brothers were arraigned on the morning of July 10, 2024. Francisco Javier Garza faces charges including two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle (2nd Degree Felony), with a bond set at $75,000. Edgar Gerardo Garza was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle and received a $35,000 bond.
