Pedestrian Killed by Train While Walking on Tracks in Abilene; Had Headphones On

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an eastbound train Tuesday afternoon while walking along the tracks at the intersection of S. 1 and Shelton St. The incident occurred just after 1 p.m.

Police dispatch received multiple calls reporting a person walking on the train tracks while wearing music listening devices who had been hit by a train and appeared to have died from severe injuries.

Responding officers found an unidentified male deceased at the scene due to traumatic injuries sustained in the collision. Preliminary investigation suggests the victim was unaware of the approaching train because he was wearing headphones or earbuds.

Justice of the Peace Shawna Joiner pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. The Abilene Police Department is currently investigating this tragic incident as a death investigation. The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin has been notified.

Authorities are reminding the public about the dangers of walking along train tracks, emphasizing that it is both prohibited and extremely unsafe. They urge citizens to remain vigilant and avoid walking on train tracks for their own safety.
