One-Year-Old Child Struck and Killed by Vehicle in Central Lubbock

The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit is currently conducting an investigation into a collision that occurred in Central Lubbock, resulting in the tragic death of a one-year-old child.

Officers rushed to the scene in the 5400 block of Avenue B on September 21, 2023, at 12:09 pm following a report of a collision with injuries. One-year-old Ezekiel Olivarez was injured in the incident and immediately transported by EMS to Covenant Women’s and Children’s Hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, young Ezekiel was later pronounced deceased.

Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation suggest that the driver of a passenger car was backing out of a driveway at a residence when the incident occurred. Regrettably, the driver was unaware that Ezekiel had walked out the front door of the residence and was positioned behind the vehicle when it struck him.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and the police have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between the driver and the child. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
