Man Convicted of Sexual Assault in Travis County, Sentenced to Probated Ten-Year Term

On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, a Travis County jury found 31-year-old Omar Cortes-Castillo guilty of two counts of Sexual Assault and one count of Attempted Sexual Assault.
The trial commenced on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, following jury selection on Monday, April 14, 2025. After deliberations on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the jury returned guilty verdicts on all three charges. During the punishment phase, the jury recommended a sentence of 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, but also suggested probation.
Following the jury’s recommendation, the judge sentenced Mr. Cortes-Castillo on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, to ten years of incarceration, probated for eight years.
Mr. Cortes-Castillo was initially arrested by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office on October 17, 2022, and charged with Sexual Assault. He was first indicted on this charge on November 11, 2022. A subsequent reindictment on August 27, 2024, included the two counts of Sexual Assault and one count of Attempted Sexual Assault for which he was ultimately convicted.
The case was presented by Assistant District Attorneys Kate Hall and Jacques Roussel, with support from Victim Counselor Kyrsten Engstrom, Investigator Rachael Lacey, and Paralegal Amanda Beaver. The investigation was conducted by Travis County Sheriff’s Office Detective Timothy Parrish.
