Man Arrested in String of Marketplace Robberies Using Counterfeit Cash, Harris County Deputies Say

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A months-long investigation has led to the arrest of a man accused of using counterfeit cash to steal property from victims selling items through online marketplaces.
According to Constable Mark Herman’s Office, the investigation began in September 2025 after deputies responded to multiple reports from residents who said they had been robbed during transactions arranged through social media marketplaces.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division determined that at least three of the incidents were connected to the same suspect.
Using search warrants and other investigative techniques, detectives identified the suspect as 18-year-old Jacob Duane Lytle.
Investigators allege Lytle used realistic counterfeit currency to purchase items from victims. In one case, after a victim realized the money was fake and confronted him, Lytle allegedly threatened the victim with a firearm before fleeing with the property.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges stemming from the investigation, and arrest warrants were issued.
Deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Special Operations Unit located and arrested Lytle without incident.
Lytle was booked into the Harris County Jail and is charged with two counts of Aggravated Robbery and one count of Theft.
His total bond was set at $40,100 by the 338th District Court and Harris County Court No. 6.
Detectives believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. Anyone who believes they were victimized by Lytle or has information related to the investigation is encouraged to contact the Constable Mark Herman’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 281-376-3472.
