La Porte Serial Rapist Sentenced to 20 Years in Cold Case Sexual Assault Conviction

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — A Galveston County jury has sentenced a La Porte man to 20 years in prison for sexual assault in a case that remained uncharged for nearly a decade.
37-year-old Myrron Theodulph Willie was sentenced on Tuesday, May 5th, after being found guilty in connection with a 2015 assault in La Marque, according to the Galveston County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
The case began in May 2015 when officers with the La Marque Police Department responded to a call at a home on Pear Street. At the time, the victim underwent a sexual assault examination, but the case was not charged until 2024, when investigators reopened cold cases and reexamined the evidence.
During the trial, jurors heard from multiple victims, including two connected directly to the charges, identified in court as A.L. and C.F. Both testified about the abuse they said they experienced at Willie’s hands, describing controlling behavior and assaults.
Prosecutors also introduced testimony from additional women, including victims identified as B.J. and J.H., who described similar experiences while in relationships with Willie. Another victim, J.J., reported a separate assault in 2018 in Webster, Texas.
Forensic evidence played a central role in the case. Experts from the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Lab testified that DNA collected during sexual assault exams linked multiple cases together and ultimately tied the evidence back to Willie.
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program at University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) also presented detailed findings from the exams, reinforcing the timeline and consistency of the allegations.
Investigators said the case gained momentum in 2024 when Detective Matthew Cypert conducted a new review, identifying more than nine individuals who alleged sexual assault by Willie. Based on that investigation, prosecutors moved forward with charges related to two victims.
Chief Violence Against Women Prosecutor Kate Willis and Assistant District Attorney Erika Mercado led the prosecution, arguing that the evidence showed a long-standing pattern of behavior.
The defense challenged the credibility of some witnesses, suggesting possible motives tied to personal disputes, including child custody issues. However, prosecutors countered that the DNA evidence and consistent testimony from multiple victims supported the case.
Willie testified in his own defense. Under cross-examination, he acknowledged that multiple women he had been involved with had accused him of sexual assault.
The jury returned a mixed verdict, finding Willie guilty on one count of sexual assault and not guilty on a second count.
During the punishment phase, prosecutors argued for the maximum sentence, citing the duration of the alleged conduct, the number of victims and testimony regarding inappropriate behavior while Willie was employed as a teacher at Hitchcock High School.
Jurors deliberated for less than 10 minutes before sentencing Willie to 20 years in prison, the maximum allowed, along with a $10,000 fine.
Officials credited the collaborative effort between agencies, including the La Marque Police Department, Webster Police Department, UTMB and DPS Crime Lab, in bringing the case forward nearly a decade after the original report.
