Katy Man Killed in Self-Defense Shooting on Park Brook Drive

KATY, Texas – Harris County deputies are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday morning, October 10, at a home on 21627 Park Brook Drive.

Around 6:15 a.m., multiple 911 calls reported a physical altercation in progress involving a gun. Deputies from Harris County Constable Precinct 5 and EMS responded to the scene and found the adult male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso. Life-saving measures were performed, but the victim, later identified as 33-year-old Jesse Schuler, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives interviewed the homeowner, who fired the gun, and two witnesses. According to the homeowner, Schuler, who had previously lived at the residence and was evicted months ago, returned early Friday morning and became involved in a confrontation outside the front porch. The homeowner stated that Schuler removed a knife and charged at them, prompting the shooting in self-defense.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office will review the case with a Grand Jury once the investigation is complete. The Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the body, and an autopsy is expected to confirm the cause and manner of death.

The homeowner, a resident of the home, was released following the investigation.
