High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Arrest Near Texas-New Mexico State Line

On Sunday, February 4th, 2024, at approximately 6:15 PM, Kermit Police Department officers, engaged in handling a civil matter, discovered that the subject, identified as Daniel Wright, was the subject of a felony arrest warrant from Blanco County. Upon attempting to make contact with Mr. Wright, he evaded law enforcement in a blue Honda Civic, reaching speeds exceeding 120mph on North State Highway 18, north of Kermit city limits.

Winkler County Sheriff’s Office deputies joined the pursuit, which continued into a construction zone where Mr. Wright, without the presence of workers and with light traffic, lost control of his vehicle approximately one mile south of the New Mexico state line. The vehicle rolled, resulting in no injuries to Mr. Wright or any other individuals.

Law enforcement successfully extricated Mr. Wright from the crashed vehicle and took him into custody. Property damage was reported to construction cones and a fence belonging to Fernandez Ranch.

Following the incident, Mr. Wright was transported to the Winkler County Detention Center. He faces charges including a Blanco County warrant for Bond Revocation related to Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and an additional charge of Evading Arrest/Detention with a Motor Vehicle.
