Drunk Driver Sentenced to 30 Years After Houston Mother and Son Killed Returning From Softball Tournament
Victims: Brittany Munive and DJ

HOUSTON, Texas – A judge has sentenced a man to 30 years in prison after prosecutors said he caused a deadly wrong-way crash that killed a mother and her 9-year-old son and left a 10-year-old girl paralyzed.

According to prosecutors, 33-year-old Brittany Nicole Munive and her son, DJ (Dario Anthony Munive Jr), were killed March 24, 2025, when 47-year-old Michael Anthony Arguijo crashed his red Ford F-150 head-on into the family’s Mitsubishi on Interstate 45.

Authorities said Brittany’s husband and the couple’s 10-year-old daughter, Mila, were also inside the SUV and suffered serious injuries.

Investigators said Mila was left paralyzed from the waist down.

Prosecutors said the Munive family had been returning home from a softball tournament in Dallas where Mila’s team had won a championship.

Officials said the family was less than 20 miles from home when the crash occurred.

During sentencing, prosecutors proved Arguijo’s blood alcohol concentration measured 0.137, which is above the legal intoxication limit.

A judge sentenced Arguijo to 20 years in prison for the intoxication manslaughter death of DJ and an additional consecutive 10-year sentence for the intoxication manslaughter death of Brittany, resulting in a total sentence of 30 years.

The judge also sentenced Arguijo to 20 years for injury to a child in connection with Mila’s injuries. That sentence will run concurrently with the other prison terms.

Prosecutors noted the decision to stack the intoxication manslaughter sentences was significant because it requires Arguijo to serve the prison terms one after the other rather than at the same time.
