Driver Arrested by Iowa Colony Officers After Pursuit Ends With Vehicle Submerged in Retention Pond

IOWA COLONY, Texas — A driver is in custody after leading police on a brief pursuit early Tuesday morning that ended with a vehicle submerged in a retention pond, according to the Iowa Colony Police Department.
The incident occurred around 1:19 a.m. on April 14, 2026, when an officer observed a traffic violation near Meridiana Parkway and Sterling Gate Drive and attempted to initiate a stop.
Police said the driver failed to stop, leading officers on a short pursuit into the Sierra Vista subdivision.
As the vehicle came to a stop near Vista View Drive and Davenport Parkway, the driver exited while it was still moving and fled on foot without placing the vehicle in park. After a brief foot chase, officers took the suspect into custody without injury.
Authorities said the unattended vehicle continued moving, traveled across a grassy area, and eventually submerged in a nearby retention pond.
Due to low visibility, recovery efforts for the vehicle have been delayed. The scene remains secured as officers await specialized dive teams from another agency.
The driver has been charged with two offenses related to the incident and is being held at the Brazoria County Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing.
