City of Dallas Partners with EPA to Assess Pollutants in West Dallas, Launching Cumulative Impact Assessment Pilots Project

The City of Dallas has joined forces with EPA Region 6 in a collaborative effort to assess pollutants in West Dallas. The Cumulative Impacts Assessment Pilots Project, initiated in response to public health and environmental concerns voiced by residents, will encompass air modeling, water sampling, fish tissue analysis, soil sampling, and a comprehensive cumulative impact assessment report.

Concrete Batch Plants have been a focal point of concern for residents, prompting the need for a thorough evaluation. Councilmember Omar Narvaez, representing District 6, expressed his dedication to advocating for Concrete Batch Plant reform. Narvaez has worked closely with governmental agencies and local community groups to address these concerns and hopes that the pilot project will serve as a blueprint for other communities facing similar challenges.

EPA’s involvement in the project includes collaboration with residents and community leaders to gather input on preferred sampling locations and the most effective methods for keeping the public informed about the assessment’s progress.

Debbie Solis, a resident of West Dallas, welcomed the Cumulative Impact Assessment Pilot Project, expressing gratitude for its arrival. With a history of pollution affecting neighborhoods of color for generations, Solis expressed hope for a cleaner air future and emphasized the urgency of bringing justice to West Dallas.
