Brownsville Man Apprehended After Spree of Burglaries
In the early hours of November 26, 2023, Brownsville Police Patrol Officers responded to a call in the 600 block of Central Blvd regarding a suspicious person attempting to open the doors of multiple businesses.
As officers arrived at the scene, a citizen flagged them down, reporting that a male subject wearing a black shirt and khaki pants had entered a car wash office across the street. Upon investigation, officers observed the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Jonathan Ivan Hernandez, fleeing from the car wash office towards an alley. The officers, in their marked police unit, pursued Hernandez and issued multiple commands for him to stop. Hernandez was apprehended shortly afterward and taken to Brownsville City Jail.
Upon inspecting the car wash office, officers found signs of a ransacked interior and evidence of tampering with the front door’s doorknob. Subsequent questioning at the police station led to Hernandez confessing to twelve counts of Burglary of Buildings and two counts of Burglary of Motor Vehicles.
Hernandez was arraigned on November 27, 2023, and was issued a $145,000 bond for thirteen counts of Burglary of Building (State Jail Felony), two counts of Burglary of Motor Vehicle (Class A Misdemeanor), and Evading Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor).
