Armed Robber Shot Dead by Houston Officers in Central Southwest Area
Houston police are currently investigating a fatal shooting involving officers in the Central Southwest area. The incident occurred at 14427 Alrover Street around 11:40 a.m. on Sunday (March 3), resulting in the death of a 45-year-old male suspect. The identity of the deceased is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The officers involved in the incident, HPD Sergeant C. Onwuka and Officers N. Leon and E. Datu, discharged their duty weapons but were not injured. They were identified as officers assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division, with Sergeant Onwuka serving since November 2007, Officer Leon since August 2021, and Officer Datu since September 2019.
The situation unfolded after HPD patrol officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress at a convenience store on the 3300 block of Fuqua Street. The suspect, armed with a pistol, had reportedly threatened multiple customers at the store before taking a bottle of wine and fleeing the scene. Officers received information that the suspect was last seen on Alrover Street.
Upon arriving at the location, officers encountered the suspect, who was seated on a bench and holding a firearm. Despite attempts to persuade him to drop the weapon, the suspect refused and instead advanced towards the officers while raising the firearm. In response, the officers discharged their duty weapons, striking the suspect. The Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the suspect dead at the scene.
Following standard protocol for officer-involved shootings within Houston city limits, the case is under investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
