Two Arrested in Bank Jugging Theft Operation at North Lamar Boulevard in Austin
On Friday, December 13, 2024, the Austin Police Department (APD) conducted a targeted operation to address a rise in jugging-style crimes, resulting in the arrest of two suspects in possession of $8,000 stolen from a victim.
The operation, carried out by APD’s Robbery Unit, Organized Crime Division, SWAT, North Metro Tactical Unit, and Crime Analysis Unit, focused on locations frequently targeted by jugging suspects. Within ten minutes of surveillance at a banking institution, undercover officers identified a Toyota pickup truck matching the description of vehicles used in prior crimes.
The suspect vehicle followed a potential victim vehicle to a parking lot at 11300 North Lamar Boulevard. After parking next to the victim’s vehicle, a suspect exited the Toyota, unlawfully entered the victim’s vehicle, and retrieved an envelope containing $8,000 in cash. Officers intervened during the theft, conducted a traffic stop, and arrested the suspects.
The suspects, identified as Brandon Lee Wright and Marquise Keyon Collins, were charged with Felony Theft. The stolen cash, along with the victim’s personal bank card and ID, was returned to the victim.
The APD reminds the public to exercise caution when withdrawing and transporting large sums of money, particularly during the holiday season. Additionally, they issued a warning to individuals attempting to commit jugging crimes in Austin, stating that such activities will be fully investigated and prosecuted.
