Houston Mayor Revives Tour de Houston 2024
Houston Mayor John Whitmire announced today that the Tour de Houston will return in 2024, with Apache Corporation continuing its role as the title sponsor for the event.
This marks the 12th consecutive year that Apache Corporation will be the title sponsor, supporting the event which raises funds for the City’s RE-Plant Houston program. This program focuses on reforesting Houston parks and greenspaces managed by the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, with Apache also backing the HPARD Annual Arbor Day celebration.
Mayor Whitmire expressed his gratitude towards Apache Corporation for their ongoing support, highlighting the company’s commitment to investing in Houston through meaningful partnerships and events. He emphasized the significance of Tour de Houston in bringing the community together and showcasing the city’s diverse neighborhoods.
Apache CEO John J. Christmann IV echoed the sentiment, expressing honor in continuing the partnership with Mayor Whitmire and the City of Houston. He anticipated the 2024 Tour de Houston to be the best one yet and looked forward to seeing Houstonians and Apache team members participate as cyclists or volunteers.
Earlier, the Mayor’s Office of Special Events had announced the cancellation of the 2024 Tour de Houston due to funding issues, without consulting Mayor Whitmire. However, upon learning of the decision, the mayor was determined to find a solution, leading to the event’s revival.
The Tour de Houston offers 20, 40, and 60-mile bike routes, providing opportunities for participants to cycle for fitness and enjoyment. Mayor Whitmire invited the community to join in making the 2024 Tour de Houston the most successful in its history.
