Single-Vehicle Crash Claims Two Lives On Research Blvd in Austin

In a tragic incident on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at around 11:36 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers rushed to the 8400 block of Research Boulevard Service Road SB following a single-vehicle crash. The driver and passenger, both involved in the accident, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has been identified as 20-year-old Omar Vasquez Sanchez.

This marks Austin’s 89th fatal crash for the year 2023, resulting in a total of 93 fatalities. Comparatively, on the same date in 2022, there were 115 fatal crashes, leading to 121 deaths.

The initial assessment of the fatal crash has been conducted, but the investigation is ongoing. It’s important to note that fatality information may be subject to change.
