Texas City Man Charged With Murder After Woman Dies in Shooting

TEXAS CITY, Texas — A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder following a shooting that left one woman dead and another person injured in Texas City.

According to the Texas City Police Department, officers responded at approximately 2:45 p.m. on June 23 to a reported shooting in the 3400 block of 9th Avenue North.

When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

One of the victims, identified as 25-year-old Nakia Kelley of Texas City, later died from her injuries.

Following an investigation, detectives identified 26-year-old Kristian Jon McMurrin as the suspect. He was located and taken into custody without incident later that day.

The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges of Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon against McMurrin.

He was booked into the Texas City Jail pending judicial proceedings. His bond was set at $500,000.

Police have not released the identity or condition of the surviving victim.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
