Former Cub Scout Leader Sentenced to 80 Years in Prison Following Galveston County Abuse Trial
Robert Alexander

GALVESTON, TX — A League City man has been sentenced to 80 years in prison for the aggravated sexual assault of a 12-year-old boy dating back more than two decades, following a trial that exposed a serial pattern of abuse spanning multiple generations of children.

Robert Griffin Alexander was sentenced on Friday, May 15, 2026, by a Galveston County jury in the 10th Judicial District Court. Alexander will be required to serve at least 30 years behind bars before he becomes eligible for parole under Texas law.

Decades of Silence Broken by Multiple Victims

The criminal case against Alexander originally dates back to the year 2000, when he began a four-year pattern of abuse against a 12-year-old boy. Alexander had initially gained access to the family by serving as the cub scout leader for the victim’s older brother.

In 2017—seventeen years after the trauma began—the victim came forward to police as an adult. Prompted by his disclosure, two of his adult brothers also stepped forward to report that they had been abused by Alexander during their childhoods. While the 2017 reports did not immediately lead to criminal prosecution, the case shifted drastically in 2022.

In 2022, a fourth independent victim came forward to report that he had been sexually abused by Alexander for a four-year period beginning in 2010. Following this new allegation, the League City Police Department re-opened the comprehensive investigation. Armed with subsequent statements, a grand jury indicted Alexander for aggravated sexual assault of a child for the 2000 abuse and indecency with a child by contact for the 2010 abuse.

Seven Survivors Testify at Emotional Trial

The felony trial began on Monday, May 11, 2026, with Judge Rebecca Millo presiding. Felony prosecutors Candice Freeman and Erika Mercado systematically built their case by calling the primary victim alongside three other survivors to the stand, each detailing the sexual abuse they endured at the hands of the former scout leader. On Thursday, the jury returned a swift guilty verdict for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

During the intense punishment phase of the trial, prosecutors introduced even more evidence of Alexander’s serial behavior. Three additional witnesses traveled to Galveston County to testify about separate abuse inflicted on them by the defendant.

Among the final witnesses was an autistic young man from Huntsville, Alabama, who testified that Alexander had targeted and abused him when he was a minor. In total, seven separate survivors faced Alexander in court to detail his actions.

Additional Texas Charges Pending

The 80-year sentence does not conclude Alexander’s legal battles. He still faces outstanding criminal charges in New Braunfels, Texas, where he is indicted on two counts of indecency with a child by contact involving two of the specific victims who courageously testified at his Galveston County trial.

Following the reading of the sentence, prosecutor Candice Freeman thanked the jury for ensuring Alexander would never be able to exploit another child.

“I am thankful to the jury for holding Alexander accountable, after so many years of abuse to so many victims, and for preventing him from doing harm to anyone else,” Freeman stated. “I hope the verdict provides validation to the victims in this case and sends a message to other victims out there that it’s never too late to come forward.”

The Galveston County Criminal District Attorney’s Office heavily commended the League City Police Department, giving specific praise to lead Detective Brittnee Demasi for her exhaustive work in re-opening the case and coordinating with survivors across state lines.
