Driver Charged After Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian/Vehicle Crash on South State Hwy 6

HOUSTON, Texas — A 50-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian early Sunday morning in Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The suspect, Godspower Oniovosa, is charged with failure to stop and render aid involving death in the 263rd Criminal District Court.
Police said the crash occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. on May 10 in the 2600 block of South State Highway 6.
According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sgt. K. Bui and Officer J. Rincon, a black Land Rover Range Rover Sport was traveling southbound when it struck a male pedestrian who was in the intersection.
Investigators said the driver did not stop to render aid following the crash. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the Land Rover was later found stalled with heavy front-end damage. Oniovosa was detained and brought back to the scene of the crash.
After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, officers charged and arrested Oniovosa.
The identity of the deceased pedestrian has not yet been released pending notification of family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
