1-Year-Old Killed in Parking Lot Crash at Houston Apartment Complex in the Westwood Area

HOUSTON, Texas — Police are investigating a tragic auto-pedestrian crash that claimed the life of a toddler Friday night.

According to the Houston Police Department, the incident occurred around 9:25 p.m. April 24, 2026, at an apartment complex in the 10225 block of Bissonnet Street (The Reserve at Westwood Apartments).

Investigators said 1-year-old Liam Tovar was with family members who were getting into a vehicle when he broke away from his mother and ran into the parking lot. He was struck by a security guard’s vehicle that was patrolling the area.

Authorities said the driver, a 23-year-old security guard, immediately stopped and began rendering aid. The child was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Surveillance video reviewed by investigators shows the vehicle was traveling at a low speed at the time of the incident. Police said the driver showed no signs of impairment and was questioned and released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
