Armed Suspect Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting on East Freeway in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas — Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left an armed suspect dead late Saturday night in east Houston.
According to the Houston Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:10 p.m. April 25, 2026, at a business located in the 13600 block of East Freeway (Interstate 10).
Officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man firing shots at employees behind the business. Upon arrival, officers observed an open rear fire exit door and announced their presence before entering the building.
Inside, officers encountered a male suspect armed with a handgun and wearing body armor. Police said the suspect began shooting at officers from an office area, prompting three officers to discharge their weapons, striking the suspect multiple times.
Officers rendered aid before the suspect was transported by the Houston Fire Department to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released pending notification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Investigators said the incident began when the suspect allegedly broke into at least one vehicle, triggering an alarm. When employees went outside to investigate, the suspect opened fire, causing them to retreat inside the building. The suspect then followed them inside before officers arrived.
Authorities confirmed no employees were injured.
The officers involved were identified as Sgt. J. Cruz and Officers K. Muldrow and L. Houston. Officer Houston sustained minor cuts, while the other officers were not injured.
As is standard protocol, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division Special Investigations Unit, Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing.
